Performance Marketing for Contractors & Home Service Businesses

Quavento Technologies manages advertising for contractors and home service businesses: HVAC, plumbing, roofing, electrical, solar, CCTV, pest control and related trades. We build and run Google Ads campaigns for each service you want more of, set up Local Services Ads for American contractors, use Meta ads for planned projects, and track every call and form back to the advertisement that produced it. We work from Pune with Indian contractors directly and with businesses in the United States remotely.

Advertising suits this industry better than almost any other. The customer has a problem, searches for someone to fix it and calls within minutes. An advertisement at the top of that search, leading to a page with a phone number, can turn a budget into booked work on the same day.

It can also burn money quickly. Clicks from outside the service area, from people looking for a job, a part or a tutorial, or at hours when nobody answers the phone, all cost the same as a real lead. This page explains how a contractor's advertising should be built so that the budget buys calls worth taking.

Guide

Why does search advertising work so well for contractors?

Because of intent. Most advertising interrupts people who were doing something else. A search advertisement answers a person who has just typed AC not cooling, emergency plumber or roof leak repair with a place name. They want the service now, and the only question is whom to call.

That makes the arithmetic unusually clear. You know what a typical job is worth and roughly how many calls become jobs. If the campaign delivers calls at a cost that leaves a margin, it is worth running, and if not, it is changed or stopped. Few other forms of marketing can be judged so quickly.

The catch is competition. In busy trades and large cities many contractors bid for the same searches, and clicks are priced accordingly. Careful structure matters more than budget: the contractor who pays only for the right searches, in the right area, and converts more of them, wins against a bigger spender who does not.

How should a contractor's Google Ads account be built?

Around services. Each service you want to promote gets its own campaign or ad group, its own keywords, its own advertisements and its own landing page. Someone who searches for water heater repair sees an ad about water heater repair and lands on a page about it. Lumping every service into one campaign pointing at the home page is the most common and most expensive mistake we find in audits.

Keywords are chosen for buying intent: the service, repair, installation, replacement, near me, the town. Negative keywords are equally important. We exclude searches containing words such as jobs, salary, course, how to, DIY, parts, manual and free, along with brands and services you do not handle, and we review the actual search terms every week to add more.

Advertisements carry the practical facts: the service, the area, availability, licence or years in business, and a call button. Extra assets show the phone number, location, service links and review ratings where eligible. Our general approach is on the Google Ads management page.

  • One campaign or ad group per service.
  • Keywords with clear buying intent.
  • A long, regularly updated negative keyword list.
  • Ads that name the service, the area and how to call.
  • A matching landing page for each service.

What are Local Services Ads, and who can use them?

Local Services Ads are a separate Google format built for trades. They appear above ordinary search ads, show the business name, rating, hours and a verification badge, and invite the customer to call or message directly. The advertiser pays for each lead, not for each click.

To take part, a business goes through Google's screening, which varies by trade and state and can include checks on licences, insurance and the business itself. Position depends on factors such as proximity to the customer, review rating and number, how reliably the business answers, and its hours. A contractor who misses calls sinks in the list.

The format is available in the United States for most home service categories and is not offered in India at present. For American contractors we handle the application, set the service types and areas, connect the reviews, and check each lead so that those which are clearly invalid can be raised with Google. In many trades these ads and ordinary search campaigns work best together.

How do you stop paying for the wrong clicks?

With location, schedule and exclusions. Location targeting is set to the towns, postal codes or radius you serve, and to people who are in or regularly in that area, not people merely interested in it. Without that setting, an advertisement for a Pune electrician can be shown to someone in another state who once searched about Pune.

The schedule follows your phones. If the office answers from eight to six, advertisements for routine work run in those hours. Emergency campaigns run around the clock only if someone truly picks up at night. An unanswered call from a paid click is the most wasteful outcome in the account.

We also exclude areas that cost more to reach than they return, lower bids on devices or times that convert poorly, and block placements on apps and sites that produce accidental taps. Each week we read the search terms report line by line. This routine housekeeping does more for cost per lead than any clever feature.

Where should the advertisement send people?

To a page about that one service, built to produce a call. The heading repeats the service and the area. The phone number is a button at the top and stays visible while scrolling. Below it are a short description of the work, the reasons to choose you, credentials, two or three reviews, photographs of real jobs and a form with four or five fields.

The page must load quickly on a phone, since most of these searches are mobile and many are urgent. It should also match the advertisement closely, which improves Google's quality rating for the keyword and lowers what you pay per click.

We build these pages as part of the campaign or as part of a full site. The website we built for Shruti IT Service, a CCTV, solar and electrical contractor in Nashik, gives each line of work its own page with an enquiry form, which is the structure advertising needs. See our contractor website development page for the detail.

How are calls and leads tracked?

Thoroughly, before the first advertisement runs. Calls made directly from an ad are recorded by Google. Calls from the website are tracked with a forwarding number that shows which campaign and keyword led to them. Form submissions and WhatsApp clicks are recorded as conversions.

Counting leads is only half of it. A two-minute call asking about a service you do not offer is not the same as a booked installation. Where your office can mark which leads became jobs, in job software, a CRM or a simple sheet, we feed that back into the account so that bidding favours the searches that bring real work.

The monthly report is short: spend, leads, cost per lead and booked jobs by service, with the changes made and planned. Call recording, where used, follows local consent rules, and in the United States any follow-up texts to leads need the consent the Telephone Consumer Protection Act requires.

When do Facebook and Instagram ads make sense?

For work that people plan, and for staying in view. Nobody scrolls Instagram looking for an emergency plumber. But a homeowner may well respond to an advertisement about rooftop solar, a new air conditioning system before summer, a kitchen renovation, waterproofing before the monsoon or a camera system for a new shop.

These campaigns target homeowners or business owners in your service area and rely on strong visuals: before and after photographs, a short video of an installation, a customer speaking about the result. Lead forms that open inside the app make it easy to respond, though such leads are less committed than search leads and need a call within minutes.

Meta is also the natural place for remarketing, showing your name again to people who visited the website and did not enquire, which suits jobs with a long decision. Our Meta ads management page describes how we run these campaigns.

How should the budget follow the seasons?

Closely. Demand for most trades rises and falls with the weather, and click prices rise with it as every competitor switches on at once. Cooling peaks in the hot months, heating in the cold, roofing after storms, pest control as it warms, and waterproofing before the rains.

We plan the year with you. Spending rises just ahead of each peak, when leads are still affordable, and shifts toward maintenance contracts, tune-ups and planned projects in the quiet months, when crews need work and clicks cost less. If you are booked solid, we reduce or pause campaigns, since paying for leads you cannot serve helps nobody.

The budget itself is yours to set and is paid directly to Google or Meta from your own account. We recommend starting with an amount that can buy enough clicks on one or two priority services to judge the results within a month, then expanding what works.

How does advertising fit with the rest of your marketing?

It is the fastest part, not the whole. Advertising brings calls from the day it starts and stops the day you stop paying. Organic visibility takes months to build and then keeps working, which is why we usually run both: ads for immediate work, and SEO for contractors to reduce dependence on paid clicks over time.

Reviews affect both. A strong rating raises the response to every advertisement and is a ranking factor in Local Services Ads, so the routine on our review management for contractors page pays for itself quickly.

And nothing works if the phone is not answered. Before recommending more spend we look at how many calls are missed and how fast web leads are returned. The overall plan for the industry is on our contractors and home services page, and our wider service is described under performance marketing.

Pricing & engagement

Advertising management runs as a monthly fee, with a one-time setup charge for building the account, tracking and landing pages. We quote in rupees for Indian businesses and in US dollars for American contractors. The advertising budget is separate and is paid by you directly to Google or Meta from an account in your name, so the history and data remain yours. Our fee depends on the number of services, locations and platforms managed. We suggest an initial three months, enough to tune the account through real data, and then continue month to month. An audit of an existing account is available as a fixed-price project.
