San Francisco, CA, United States, served remotely from Pune, India
Quavento Technologies is a digital marketing and development agency that works with businesses in San Francisco, California. We design and build websites and online stores, develop custom software and mobile apps, and run SEO and advertising. Our team is in Pune, India. We work with San Francisco clients remotely, hold calls in Pacific Time windows and invoice in US dollars.
San Francisco packs an unusual range of businesses into forty-nine square miles. Venture-backed startups share blocks with third-generation restaurants. Consumer brands with national followings began in apartments here. Law firms, banks, architects, nonprofits, hotels and corner shops all operate in a city where rents are high, customers are discerning and almost everyone looks things up before they act.
This page explains how we work with the kinds of business that fill the city, what local and state rules mean for a website, and why a remote team makes sense in one of the most expensive markets in the world.

Expectations. People here have used well-designed products for years, many of them built a few streets away, and they notice when something is slow, confusing or dishonest. A clumsy booking form or a cluttered home page costs more customers in San Francisco than it would elsewhere.
The city is also small and dense. It is a place of neighborhoods, each with its own high street and its own regulars: the Mission, the Richmond, the Sunset, North Beach, Noe Valley, Hayes Valley, the Marina. Many residents do not own a car, and they choose what is within a walk or a short ride.
And it is a company town for an industry that sells to the world. A startup in SoMa may have no customers in California at all. Its market is every company of a certain kind, wherever it is, and its website is the entire storefront.
Less than it thinks at the beginning, and more structure later. Before a product is released, a single clear page that explains the idea and collects interested people is enough. Time spent on an elaborate site would be better spent on the product.
At launch, the site has to explain what the product does in a sentence, show it working, state the price or how pricing works and make it easy to start. It must hold up when a launch announcement sends a wave of visitors in an hour. Analytics should be in place so the team learns from that traffic.
As the company grows and hires a sales team, the site expands: pages for each use case and industry, customer stories, documentation, a security page for enterprise buyers and content that earns search traffic. We build for the stage a company is at, on a foundation that will not need replacing at the next one. Our web design for San Francisco page describes this.
On their own few blocks. A cafe in the Inner Sunset is not competing with one in the Mission. It is competing with the three others within a ten-minute walk. Google's map results work the same way, favoring what is near the person searching.
That makes the essentials very local: a complete Google Business Profile, recent photographs, accurate hours, a steady supply of genuine reviews and a website that loads instantly and answers the obvious questions. Details that matter in this city include the nearest transit line, whether there is any parking, whether the entrance has steps and whether reservations are needed.
Yelp was founded here and remains unusually influential for restaurants, salons and home services. Neighborhood merchants associations, local blogs and community newsletters carry weight too. Our SEO services in San Francisco page explains how to work with all of them.
Chinese first, after English. A large share of the city's residents are of Chinese descent, many of them Cantonese speakers, with communities centered on Chinatown, the Richmond and the Sunset. Spanish is widely spoken, especially in the Mission and the Excelsior. Tagalog and Russian are also common.
For clinics, dentists, lawyers, accountants, banks, insurers and real estate agents, serving customers in their own language is a real advantage, and few websites do it. Traditional Chinese characters are the norm for the local Cantonese-speaking community, which is a detail automatic translation tools usually get wrong.
We build language versions written by native speakers, with their own page addresses and correct tagging for search engines. Before we do, we ask whether the phone and the front desk can serve customers in that language, because the website should not promise more than the business delivers.
California's are the strictest in the country in several areas. On accessibility, the Unruh Civil Rights Act allows statutory damages for each violation, and the state sees a large share of the nation's website accessibility claims. We design and test to WCAG 2.2 level AA.
On privacy, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives residents rights over their personal information and applies to businesses above certain thresholds, and any commercial site collecting personal information must post a privacy policy. On pricing, the advertised price must include mandatory fees. Restaurants and bars may add a service charge or other mandatory fee only if it is clearly and conspicuously disclosed, including on menus, which matters in a city where such surcharges are common.
Brands that make environmental claims face specific California disclosure and labeling laws, and subscriptions must be easy to cancel online. We build to these rules and recommend that your attorney confirm how they apply to you. We are developers, not lawyers.
Through conferences as much as seasons. Major technology, healthcare and developer conferences fill the convention center and the hotels around it several times a year. For companies that sell to those audiences, the weeks around an event are the best time for launches, announcements and meetings, and landing pages and campaigns are built around them.
For hotels, restaurants and venues, the same events mean full houses and private bookings. Tourism adds its own peaks, with visitors drawn to the waterfront, the bridge, the parks and the neighborhoods, and summer here is famously cool and foggy while early autumn is warm.
Startups have a rhythm of their own tied to funding rounds, product launches and hiring pushes. We plan around whichever calendar governs your business and prepare pages well ahead, since search engines need time to rank them.
Cost and time, plainly. Agency and contractor rates here are among the highest anywhere, and good people are booked months ahead. A small company or a neighborhood business often cannot justify the local price for a website, a store or a search program, and a funded startup would rather spend its money on its own team.
Working across time zones is ordinary in this city. India is twelve and a half hours ahead during daylight saving time and thirteen and a half in winter, so we hold calls from 8 am to 9 am or 5 pm to 7 pm Pacific. Work handed over at the end of your day is often done by the start of the next.
We are clear about what we are not. We have no office in San Francisco or anywhere in the United States. We cannot attend a shoot, a pitch or an event. For those, a local partner is the right choice. Our page for US businesses explains contracts, payment and ownership.
At the point where customers are being lost. A startup with visitors and few sign-ups has a messaging problem. A restaurant with a good reputation and an unusable website has a design problem. A firm that nobody finds has a search problem. Fixing the right one first saves money.
Consumer brands should look at our Shopify development for San Francisco and ecommerce development in San Francisco pages. Founders will find our approach to first versions under custom software development and mobile app development.
We suggest a small, defined first project at a fixed price, such as an audit, a launch page or a two-week discovery. It shows how we think and communicate before you commit to anything larger.
Everything. Domains are registered to you. Hosting, analytics, advertising accounts and code repositories are in your name, with access granted to us and removable at any time. Our agreement assigns intellectual property in code, design and content to you on payment.
For a startup this is not a formality. Investors and acquirers examine who owns the code and the brand assets, and gaps discovered during diligence delay deals. We set it up correctly from the first day and sign a non-disclosure agreement before seeing anything confidential.
We also hand over documentation, so that an in-house hire or another agency can continue without us. Our guide to choosing a digital marketing agency lists the questions any vendor should answer, and our portfolio shows completed projects with the client named.

Ongoing
Launch, documentation handed over and a plan for the next stage.
Websites, stores, apps and software are quoted as a fixed price in US dollars against a written scope and paid in milestones, or as a monthly team rate where requirements will change. SEO, content and advertising management run as monthly retainers with stated deliverables, and advertising budgets are paid by you directly to the platforms. We do not publish prices because a corner cafe and a venture-backed software company need very different things. Each proposal itemizes the work. We provide IRS Form W-8BEN-E, and your accountant can confirm how payments to a foreign vendor are documented.
Our team works from Pune, India. We do not have a US office, so every project is run remotely with a named project manager, a weekly call and written updates. These are the hours we keep for calls with US clients.
