San Francisco, CA, United States, served remotely from Pune, India
Quavento Technologies builds and improves Shopify stores for businesses in San Francisco, California. We turn designs into themes, set up products and collections, configure shipping, pickup, tax and payments, add the apps a store needs and train your team to run it. We work remotely from Pune, India, hold calls in Pacific Time windows and quote in US dollars.
Brands in San Francisco usually arrive with strong opinions about design, and often with a designer. What they need from a developer is someone who will build exactly what was drawn, make it fast, keep it editable by the marketing team and tell them when an idea will hurt sales.
The city's independent shops need something different: one system for the counter, the website and deliveries around town. This page covers both.

Faithfully, and with the platform in mind. A designer's file shows the ideal page with perfect photographs and headlines of the right length. A store has four hundred products, some with one image and some with nine, titles that run to three lines and a sale badge nobody drew.
We review designs before building and raise those cases early: what happens with long text, missing images, sold-out variants, many colors, small screens and translated copy. Then we build the theme on Shopify's current architecture, matching typography, spacing and motion to the file, and check it against the design at several screen sizes.
Where a brand has a design system, we build the theme's components to match it, so the store, the marketing site and the product feel like one thing. Where it does not, we establish a small, consistent set of components that keeps the store coherent as it grows.
Through well-designed sections. Shopify's theme editor lets non-technical staff add, remove and rearrange blocks on a page. Whether that is useful depends entirely on how the sections were built.
We design a library of sections with your team: hero layouts, product features, editorial text and image arrangements, comparison tables, press quotes, frequently asked questions. Each has sensible options and limits, so a page built by a marketer still looks designed. Launching a new collection, a campaign page or a gift guide becomes an afternoon's work in the editor.
Editorial content matters to brands here, so journals, lookbooks and stories get proper templates too, with products that can be bought from within the article. We document each section with a short guide and record a walkthrough, since the person who needs it in six months may not have been at the handover.
By measuring before guessing. Many stores have analytics that count the same purchase twice or lose track of visitors at checkout, so every decision rests on bad numbers. We start by making measurement trustworthy: events defined once, checked against actual orders and sent to the tools you use.
Then we look at where people leave. It is usually a handful of places: a product page that does not answer a sizing question, a cart that surprises with shipping costs, a checkout that asks for an account. We form a specific idea for each, such as adding a fit finder or showing delivery cost earlier, and test it against the current version on real traffic.
Testing needs enough visitors to give a reliable answer, and smaller stores often do not have them. In that case we rely on session recordings, customer interviews and established practice, and say plainly that we are doing so. Our national page on conversion rate optimization explains the method.
As a single system for everything they sell. A bookshop in the Richmond, a plant shop in the Mission, a wine merchant in Hayes Valley or a clothing boutique on Fillmore has a counter, a website and customers who want things brought to them.
Shopify's point of sale shares inventory, products, customers and gift cards with the online store. A sale in the shop updates the website straight away. Online orders can be collected in person, which suits a city where parcels left on doorsteps are a known risk. Staff accounts, receipts and end-of-day reports are handled in one place.
Local delivery works well in a city this compact. We set delivery zones by ZIP code, same-day cut-off times and fees, and can connect a courier service so that an order placed in the morning arrives that afternoon. Gift orders with a message and a chosen delivery date are a natural addition for florists, bakeries and bottle shops.
With pre-orders and controlled availability. A bakery that makes two hundred loaves, a ceramicist who fires once a month or a chocolate maker with a seasonal box cannot sell like a warehouse. Customers accept that if the store is clear about it.
We set up ordering by date, with a limit on how many orders each day or pickup slot can take, and a cut-off for the following day. Small-batch releases can open at a stated time with a quantity limit per customer. Sold-out products offer a notification when they return, which also tells the maker what demand looks like.
For holiday peaks, such as Thanksgiving pies or Lunar New Year gift boxes, the store opens pre-orders weeks ahead with pickup windows spread through the day so the queue does not reach the corner. All of this can run on standard Shopify with one or two well-chosen apps.
Often it already has customers asking. Brands from here tend to attract attention in Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and Japan. Shopify's market tools let one store present local currency, translated content, duties and taxes calculated at checkout, and country-specific domains or subfolders.
The choices to make are which countries to serve properly, who pays duties and how returns are handled. Collecting duties at checkout avoids an unpleasant surprise on delivery. Pricing can be set per market instead of simply converted. Some products face import restrictions or need different labeling abroad.
Selling into Europe and the United Kingdom also brings their privacy and consumer laws, including cookie consent and statutory return rights, and tax registration in some cases. We configure the store for each market and recommend that your advisers confirm the obligations before switching it on.
They get slow one reasonable decision at a time. A reviews app, a pop-up, a chat widget, a loyalty program, three analytics tools, a large video on the home page. Each adds weight, and after two years the store takes several seconds to become usable on a phone.
We build light from the start and set a performance budget measured by Google's Core Web Vitals. Images are sized and compressed, fonts are limited and loaded carefully, and scripts run only on the pages that need them. Before adding an app we check whether Shopify now does the job natively or a small piece of theme code would.
For existing stores, an audit lists every app and script with its cost and effect on speed. Removing the unused ones and tidying the theme usually produces a clear improvement, which we measure before and after. Speed is part of design, and customers here notice when it is missing.
Accessibility first. California's Unruh Civil Rights Act adds statutory damages to disability claims, and online stores are the usual targets. We build themes that work with a keyboard and screen reader, with labeled controls, visible focus, sufficient contrast and described images, and we test them by hand. Overlay widgets do not make a store accessible.
Pricing and subscriptions come next. The advertised price must include mandatory fees, discounts must be genuine and subscriptions must state their terms beside the button and be cancellable online. Privacy controls must really switch off advertising tags when a customer opts out, including through a browser signal.
Brands making environmental claims should present them specifically and keep supporting information on the site, as described on our ecommerce development in San Francisco page. We build the templates for all of this and recommend that your counsel review the wording.
In your tools and your rhythm. Theme code is kept in a repository under version control, changes are previewed on unpublished themes and nothing goes live without approval. We work from Figma, comment in your project tracker and fit into your designers' review process.
Calls are held between 8 am and 9 am or 5 pm and 7 pm Pacific. Because our working day is your night, feedback given in the afternoon is usually addressed by morning. You own the Shopify account, the code and the domain, and our access can be removed at any time.
We are based in Pune and have no office in San Francisco, so photography and film should be arranged locally. Brands on Shopify Plus can have us customize checkout through its supported extension points. Growth through search is covered on our SEO services in San Francisco page. A Shopify build is quoted as a fixed price in US dollars against a written scope and paid in milestones. The price depends on whether we design or build from your designs, the number of templates and sections, point of sale and delivery setup, international markets and any integrations. Shopify's subscription, payment processing fees, apps and hardware are paid by you directly. Conversion work and ongoing improvements run as a monthly plan with agreed hours. We do not publish prices because stores vary so much, but each proposal lists the work and the running costs to expect.
Our team works from Pune, India. We do not have a US office, so every project is run remotely with a named project manager, a weekly call and written updates. These are the hours we keep for calls with US clients.
