Shopify Development Company in Seattle, WA

What we do for businesses in Seattle.

Quavento Technologies develops Shopify stores for brands in Seattle, Washington. We design and build themes, connect Shopify to marketplaces, warehouses and accounting, set up subscriptions and point of sale, migrate stores from other platforms and improve them over time. We work remotely from Pune, India, hold calls between 8 am and 9 am or between 5 pm and 7 pm Pacific Time and quote in US dollars.

Seattle merchants are often more technical than most. The founder may have spent ten years at a software company. The operations lead knows marketplaces from the inside. They ask sharper questions about data, speed and architecture, and they are right to.

This page is written for that reader. It covers how Shopify fits beside a marketplace business, what is worth customizing and what is better left standard.

Guide

What you should know in Seattle.

How does Shopify work alongside Amazon?

As the part of the business you own. Many Seattle brands began on the marketplace and added a store of their own later, to build direct relationships with customers and reduce dependence on a single channel.

The two can share a good deal. Stock held in the marketplace's warehouses can be used to fulfill orders from your own store through its multi-channel fulfillment service, so that you do not need a second warehouse. Inventory is synchronized so that a sale on one channel reduces what is available on the other. Product information is kept in one place and published to both.

There are choices to weigh. Offering the marketplace's checkout button on your own store may raise conversion among its members, at the cost of fees and of some customer data. Packaging from its warehouses may carry its branding unless you pay for plain boxes. Reviews cannot be copied from one to the other. We set out those trade-offs for your products and build what you decide.

  • One inventory across the store and the marketplace.
  • Store orders fulfilled from marketplace warehouses where it suits.
  • Product data managed once and published to both.
  • Prices coordinated to respect marketplace rules.
  • Customer email collected with consent on your own store.

What should a theme for technical products do?

Present detail without overwhelming. Outdoor equipment, electronics, tools, bicycles and specialist coffee gear are bought by people who read specifications. A theme designed for fashion, with a large photograph and a short paragraph, serves them poorly.

We store specifications as structured fields, using Shopify's metafields and metaobjects, so that weight, dimensions, materials and ratings are entered once and shown consistently. That data powers filters on collection pages, comparison tables between models and compatibility information, such as which parts fit which product.

Product pages are laid out so that a casual shopper sees the essentials and a careful one can open the full details. Manuals, size charts and care instructions are attached. Structured data tells search engines about price, availability and ratings. Your team maintains all of it in the Shopify admin without touching code.

Should we build a headless Shopify store?

Probably not, and a technical team is the most tempted. Headless means the storefront is a separate application, built with a framework such as Shopify's Hydrogen or Next.js, which talks to Shopify for products, carts and checkout.

It offers complete freedom in design and can be extremely fast. It also means your storefront is now software you must maintain. Many apps that work in a standard theme by installing them need custom work. Staff lose the visual editor unless one is rebuilt. Costs are higher at the start and every year after.

Shopify's standard themes have become quick and flexible, and for most brands they are the better choice. Headless is justified where the buying experience is unusual, such as a complex configurator, where content and commerce are deeply mixed, or where the company has engineers who will own the storefront. We build both, and we will recommend the simpler unless there is a clear reason.

How do you make store data trustworthy?

By setting it up deliberately and checking it against orders. Merchants with an analytical background are often dismayed by what they find in a typical store: several tracking scripts firing twice, revenue in analytics that does not match Shopify, and advertising platforms each claiming the same sale.

We define the events that matter, such as a product viewed, added to cart, checkout started and purchase completed, and send them once, with consistent values, to analytics and advertising platforms. Where appropriate we send them from the server as well as the browser, which is more reliable. Totals are reconciled against Shopify's own order records.

Consent governs all of it. Shopify provides a way for a store to record each visitor's privacy choices, and tracking must respect them. For merchants who want deeper analysis, order and customer data can be exported to a data warehouse on a schedule, where your own analysts can work with it. We document what is collected and where it goes.

How does Shopify serve cafes, taprooms and shops?

With a point of sale that shares everything with the online store. A roaster with a cafe, a cidery with a taproom, a chocolate maker with a shop and a stall at a public market all sell in person as well as online.

Shopify's point of sale runs on a tablet or phone with a card reader. Products, prices, stock and customers are the same records the website uses. A visitor who buys a bag of coffee at the counter can be invited to subscribe online. A local customer can order on the website and collect in the shop. Gift cards and loyalty points work in both.

Seattle's visitor trade is seasonal, with cruise passengers and tourists filling the waterfront and markets in summer. Temporary staff need simple permissions and quick training, and a market stall needs equipment that works with patchy connectivity. Visitors who want their purchases shipped home can have the order entered at the till and sent from the warehouse. We set up the hardware, tax by location and staff roles.

How do you sell to Canada from a Shopify store?

Through Shopify Markets, set up with care. Vancouver is closer to Seattle than Portland is, and Canadian shoppers know the region's brands. Yet many American stores treat Canada as an afterthought, with prices in the wrong currency and surprise charges on delivery.

Markets lets a store show prices in Canadian dollars, on a Canadian domain or subfolder, and calculate duties and import taxes at checkout so that the customer pays everything up front. Product classification codes and countries of origin must be entered for each product for those calculations to be right.

Shipping options and delivery times are set for Canadian addresses, and returns need a route that does not cost more than the product. Canada has its own rules on product labelling in French, on consumer privacy and on commercial email, which requires consent. Customs rules and duty exemptions have changed repeatedly in recent years, so your customs broker confirms the current treatment.

What about subscriptions, resale and other features?

Each is added through an app or custom work, chosen with restraint. Subscriptions are central for coffee, tea and other consumables. We set up plans that customers can skip, swap, pause and cancel themselves, with the clear terms that automatic renewal rules require.

Resale and trade-in programs, which suit outdoor and durable goods, can be run through specialist services that integrate with Shopify or built to your own design. Repairs need a request form, a quote and status updates. Preorders need a stated shipping date. Wholesale buyers can be given their own catalogs and terms through Shopify's business-to-business features on the Plus plan.

Every app adds weight, cost and another party with access to customer data. We review what is installed, remove what is unused and write small features directly into the theme where that is cleaner. Stores selling health-related products should review their apps and tags against Washington's consumer health data law with their attorney.

How do you manage code and changes on a store?

The way software teams do. Themes are kept in version control, so that every change is recorded, reviewed and reversible. Work is done in a development theme and previewed before it is published, never edited directly on the live store.

Before a release we check the main paths on real devices: finding a product, adding to cart, discount codes, checkout, subscriptions. Speed is measured before and after, since a feature that slows the product page may cost more than it earns. Significant changes to key pages are tested against the current version where traffic is sufficient to give a reliable answer.

Checkout customization on the Plus plan uses Shopify's supported extension methods, which continue to work through platform upgrades. Automation of routine tasks uses Shopify Flow. If your own engineers want to work on the theme alongside us, we share the repository and follow an agreed review process.

How does a Shopify project run with a remote team?

We start with discovery of your products, channels, data and systems, and agree a written scope and fixed price. Design begins with the product page and cart. Development follows in a separate theme, with previews you can open at any time.

Migration from another platform covers products, customers, orders and redirects for every old address. We test with real orders, including tax, shipping to each region and any subscriptions, and launch at a quiet time. A new store generally takes eight to twelve weeks.

We are based in Pune, India, and have no Seattle office. Calls are between 8 am and 9 am or between 5 pm and 7 pm Pacific. Much of the work proceeds in writing, through tickets and pull requests, which suits teams used to working that way. You own the store and every account, and our access is as collaborators you can remove. See also ecommerce development for Seattle, the Seattle overview and Shopify development for US businesses.

Pricing & engagement

How do pricing and engagement work?

Shopify projects are quoted as a fixed price in US dollars after discovery. The cost depends on whether the theme is custom, adapted or headless, the number of templates, integrations with marketplaces and warehouses, analytics work, point of sale and cross-border setup and data migration. Shopify's plan, apps and payment processing are paid by you directly. Ongoing improvement is a separate monthly plan. We do not publish prices because stores vary so much, but you will have a written scope and price before work begins.

Working with a remote team

When can we meet in your time zone?

Our team works from Pune, India. We do not have a US office, so every project is run remotely with a named project manager, a weekly call and written updates. These are the hours we keep for calls with US clients.
