Call tracking
Calls attributed to the website, ads, Business Profile and directories that produced them.
Call tracking, form and booking events, booked jobs and revenue matched to their source, and practical website fixes that turn more visitors into calls, messages and bookings.
Quavento Technologies provides analytics and conversion rate optimisation for contractors and home service businesses: HVAC and AC service, plumbing, electrical, roofing, solar, CCTV and security, pest control, cleaning and appliance repair. We track calls, forms, bookings and messages, connect them to booked jobs and revenue in your job software, and improve the website and call handling so that more visitors become customers. We work from Pune with businesses across India and remotely with businesses in the United States.
Most contractors know roughly how busy they are but not where the work comes from. Was it Google Ads, the Business Profile, a directory, a neighbour's recommendation or the van parked on the street? Without that, marketing budgets are spent on habit and guesswork, and the website's weak spots go unnoticed.
For home service businesses, the phone is the main conversion, which makes measurement different from many other industries. This page explains how we measure what matters and improve it.

Every non-call enquiry tracked as a key event.

Missed calls and answer rates measured, because unanswered calls are lost jobs.
Calls first, then everything else that leads to a booked job. For most home service businesses, phone calls are the largest source of work, especially for urgent repairs. Forms, online bookings, WhatsApp messages and live chat matter too, particularly for planned work and quotes.
Each is set up as an event in Google Analytics 4, with the most important marked as key events. The Business Profile's own reports show calls, website clicks and direction requests from the profile.
The final measure is booked jobs and their value, which live in your job management software or CRM. Connecting leads to jobs turns marketing reports from activity into results.
Call tracking assigns phone numbers to sources, so that calls can be attributed. Dynamic number insertion shows a different number on the website depending on how the visitor arrived, such as a Google ad, an organic search or a directory, while still ringing your normal line. Google Ads can track calls from ads with its own forwarding numbers.
Tracking numbers need care where your phone number is part of your local identity. On the Google Business Profile, the main number should generally stay your real business number, with a tracking number added as an additional number only where appropriate, so that consistency across directories is not damaged. We set this up to protect your listings.
Calls can also be recorded and analysed, with customers informed as the law requires, to see which calls became bookings and how calls are handled.
Through your job management software or CRM. When a call or form arrives, its source is recorded. When it becomes a booked job, the job record carries that source. In the United States, software such as ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro and Jobber can record lead sources and connect with call tracking. In India, a CRM, Zoho or a well-kept lead register can do the same.
With that connection, reports show booked jobs and revenue by channel, and cost per booked job when marketing spend is added. That is the number that tells you whether an ad campaign, directory subscription or SEO investment is worth it.
Where systems allow, booked jobs are also sent back to Google Ads as offline conversions, which improves automated bidding. Our Google Ads management for contractors page explains that.
Because a call nobody answers is a job lost, no matter how good the marketing was. Many contractors are surprised by how many calls go unanswered when technicians are busy, the office is closed or lines are engaged.
Call tracking shows answer rates by hour and day, missed calls and how quickly they were returned. That often leads to simple fixes: an answering service during busy periods, a missed-call text-back, a better schedule for office staff or adjusting ad schedules to hours when calls are answered.
How calls are handled matters too. Friendly, confident answers, clear next steps and booking on the first call convert better than a promise to call back. Short reviews of recorded calls, with permission and disclosure, help train staff.
On mobile, most of it happens in the first few seconds. If the phone number is not visible and tappable at the top of the page, if the page is slow on mobile data, or if it is unclear what the business does and where, visitors leave. Emergency visitors in particular will not search for a phone number.
Trust gaps cause hesitation: no real photos of the team or work, no reviews visible, no licence or insurance information, no address or service area, generic stock images. Long or broken forms lose people who prefer not to call.
These issues are common and fixable. The website we built for Shruti IT Service keeps contact options and each line of work clear, which is the starting point for any contractor site. Our website development for contractors page covers the full approach.
A prominent, tappable phone number and WhatsApp button on every page, fixed on mobile where appropriate. A clear headline saying what you do and where. An emergency message and response time if you offer urgent service. Real photos, reviews, licence and insurance information and the service area near the top.
Short forms that ask only what is needed to call back or book: name, phone, service, postcode and a short description, with optional photo upload. Online booking for planned services, if your scheduling software supports it. Fast pages, with images compressed and unnecessary scripts removed.
Each service should have its own page with the same elements, so that a visitor arriving from a specific search lands on a page about exactly that service.
Larger operations with plenty of traffic can test changes properly, such as different headlines, offers or form layouts. Most small and mid-sized contractors do not have enough calls and forms each month for reliable tests.
For them, we rely on evidence and good practice: session recordings that show how visitors behave on mobile, heatmaps of taps and scrolling, call tracking data, feedback from office staff about what callers ask, and comparison of periods before and after changes, allowing for seasonality.
Seasonality is strong in home services, so comparing with the same period last year is often more meaningful than comparing with last month.
One page showing what matters: calls and forms by channel, answer rate and missed calls, booked jobs and revenue by source, cost per booked job, Business Profile calls and direction requests, and the top service pages.
We build dashboards, typically in Looker Studio, connected to Analytics, call tracking, advertising accounts and, where possible, your job software. A short monthly summary explains what changed and what we recommend.
Owners use these reports to decide where to spend: which ads to keep, which directories to drop and which services to promote before the season.
Many contractor jobs start outside the website: a call from the Google Business Profile, a directory listing, a van seen on the street, a referral from a neighbour or a repeat customer who saved the number. These are just as important to understand as website leads.
Profile calls are reported by Google and can be tracked with a dedicated number where appropriate. Directory listings can carry their own tracking numbers. For everything else, the simplest tool is often the best: the person taking the call asks how the customer heard about you and records the answer in the job software, from a short list of options.
Combined, these sources give a realistic picture of where work comes from. Owners are often surprised by how much comes from repeat customers and referrals, which argues for investing in service quality, reviews and maintenance reminders as much as in advertising.
Some changes show within weeks. Making the phone number tappable and visible, fixing a broken form or speeding up a slow mobile page often lifts calls and enquiries quickly, because they remove obvious obstacles. Improvements to trust signals, service pages and content take longer to judge, especially when traffic is modest.
Because home service demand is seasonal, we compare results with the same period last year where possible, and we look at calls and booked jobs rather than visits alone. That keeps attention on the work the website actually brings in.
It begins with an audit of tracking, call handling, the website and how leads are recorded today. We then set up call tracking, analytics events, the connection to booked jobs and dashboards, and test everything with real calls and forms.
With data flowing, we recommend and make website and process improvements in order of impact, and review results monthly. Privacy and consent for analytics and call recording are set up as your advisers confirm for your location.

Not if set up carefully. Keep your real number as the main profile number and use tracking numbers where they do not break consistency.
Marketing spend for a channel divided by the jobs it produced. It is the clearest way to compare ads, directories and SEO.
