Google Ads Management for Contractors & Home Service Businesses

Quavento Technologies manages Google Ads accounts for contractors and home service businesses: HVAC and AC service, plumbing, electrical, roofing, solar, CCTV and security, pest control, cleaning and appliance repair. We structure campaigns by service and urgency, keep targeting to the areas you serve, track calls and forms, import booked jobs and revenue from your job management software and let bidding learn from real work. We work from Pune with businesses across India and remotely with businesses in the United States.

Contractors often run Google Ads accounts that were set up once and left alone: one campaign, broad keywords, a wide radius and bidding optimised for clicks. The result is a steady flow of calls about jobs you do not do, from places you do not go, at hours nobody answers. The fix is not more budget. It is a better account.

This page explains how we build and manage Google Ads accounts for home service businesses. For the wider picture, including Local Services Ads and social advertising, see our performance marketing for contractors page.

Guide

How should a contractor’s Google Ads account be structured?

Around the jobs you want and how urgent they are. Emergency searches, such as burst pipe, no cooling or power cut in one room, come from people who will call the first credible business. Planned work, such as a new bathroom, a CCTV installation or a solar quote, involves comparison and often a form. Replacement work, such as a new AC unit or water heater, is high value and researched.

Each deserves its own campaign with its own keywords, ads, landing pages, budgets and schedule. Emergency campaigns lean on calls and run when you can answer. Planned and replacement campaigns support forms and quote requests and may run longer hours.

Within campaigns, ad groups follow services closely, so that a search for water heater repair shows an ad and page about water heater repair, not general plumbing. Close matching improves ad quality and lowers cost per call.

  • Emergency repairs: call-led, short schedules, fast pages.
  • Planned work: forms and quotes, comparison-ready pages.
  • Replacements: high value, detailed pages, longer consideration.

How tight should location targeting be?

As tight as your real service area. Targeting by postal codes or towns you serve is more precise than a large radius around your office. Google's location options also include whether to reach people located in the area or people showing interest in it; for contractors, targeting people who are in or regularly in the area avoids paying for searches from far away.

Bids can vary by location: higher in the areas closest to your base or where jobs are most profitable, lower at the edges. Areas that produce calls but rarely bookable jobs can be excluded.

In India, service areas often follow towns and talukas rather than postal codes, and we set targeting accordingly. A business like Shruti IT Service, working across several districts from Sinnar, would target the districts it really covers. We mention it to illustrate setup, not to report advertising results.

How do you handle calls?

As the main conversion for most contractors. Call assets put a call button on ads; calls can be tracked through Google forwarding numbers, which record duration and whether the call was answered. Calls from the website are tracked through dynamic numbers or click-to-call events.

Ad schedules should match when someone answers the phone. Running emergency ads at 2 am with nobody available pays for calls that go to voicemail and to competitors. If you do offer out-of-hours service, schedules can extend, with bid adjustments for the hours that convert best.

In India, a WhatsApp option is often as important as a call. Ads and landing pages can include WhatsApp links, tracked as conversions, for customers who prefer to message with a photo of the problem.

Why import booked jobs and revenue?

Because not every call is a job, and not every job is worth the same. A call asking whether you sell spare parts, a wrong number and a call booking a full system replacement all look identical to Google unless you tell it otherwise.

Job management systems such as ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro and Jobber, or a CRM, record which calls and forms became booked jobs and what they were worth. Importing those outcomes back into Google Ads as offline conversions, with values, lets automated bidding learn to find more of the searches that lead to valuable work.

Even without full integration, a simple process of marking leads as booked or not and uploading them weekly makes a large difference. We set up whichever method your systems support.

Which bidding strategy should a contractor use?

It depends on how much conversion data the account has. New accounts with little data often start with manual or enhanced bidding on carefully chosen keywords, focusing on gathering clean conversion data. As calls and booked jobs accumulate, automated strategies that aim for conversions or conversion value can perform well.

Automated bidding is only as good as the conversions it learns from. Counting every short call or page view as a conversion teaches it to find more of those. Counting booked jobs with values teaches it to find work. That is why tracking comes before bidding strategy.

Performance Max campaigns can extend reach across Google's channels, but for contractors with limited data they can spend on low-quality placements. We use them cautiously, if at all, and only with strong conversion tracking.

Which searches should be excluded?

Many. Home service keywords attract do-it-yourself searches, job seekers, training and course searches, parts buyers, manufacturer customer care searches, people looking for free information and searches for services you do not offer. Each click costs money.

We build negative keyword lists by trade and review the search terms report weekly, adding new exclusions as they appear. Typical exclusions include terms such as how to, DIY, jobs, salary, course, training, manual, parts, customer care and the names of brands you do not service, adjusted for your business.

Over time, the account's search terms become cleaner and the cost per booked job falls. This is unglamorous work, and it is where much of the improvement in contractor accounts comes from.

  • DIY and how-to searches.
  • Jobs, salary, courses and training.
  • Parts, manuals and brand customer care.
  • Services and brands you do not handle.

How do Search ads and Local Services Ads fit together?

In the United States, Local Services Ads appear above Search ads for many trades, charge per lead rather than per click, and show a Google badge after screening. They suit businesses that pass Google's checks and want predictable lead costs. Search ads offer more control over keywords, messages, landing pages and schedules.

Many contractors run both: Local Services Ads for core trades and Search ads for specific high-value services, areas or searches that Local Services Ads do not cover. Budgets are split based on cost per booked job from each.

Local Services Ads are not available in India. There, Search ads, call and WhatsApp assets and a strong Business Profile carry the load. Our Google Business Profile optimisation for contractors page covers the profile side.

How should budgets respond to weather and seasons?

Quickly. Home service demand is driven by weather: heatwaves for AC and cooling, cold snaps for heating and frozen pipes, storms for roofing and electrical, monsoon for waterproofing and leak repair in India. Search volume can multiply within days.

We plan seasonal budgets in advance and watch for weather-driven spikes, raising budgets and extending schedules when demand surges and your team has capacity. When the team is fully booked, there is little point paying for more calls; budgets can be reduced or shifted to planned work for later dates.

Ad messages change with the season too, such as pre-summer AC servicing, pre-monsoon roof checks or winter heating tune-ups, with landing pages to match.

What should a contractor expect in the first three months?

A period of learning and cleaning up. In the first weeks, we rebuild the structure, set up tracking and start collecting clean data on calls, forms and booked jobs. Search term reviews add exclusions every week, which usually lowers wasted spend noticeably as irrelevant searches are filtered out.

By the second month, the account usually has enough data to see which services, areas and hours produce booked work at an acceptable cost, and budgets shift towards them. Ads and landing pages are refined based on what customers respond to. Automated bidding may be introduced once booked-job conversions are flowing reliably.

By the third month, the aim is a stable account with a known cost per booked job by service, and a clear view of where extra budget would bring more work and where it would not. Results depend heavily on competition, season, your capacity and how quickly calls are answered, so we set expectations from your own data rather than from promises.

How does a Google Ads engagement run?

It begins with an audit of your current account, if any: structure, keywords, search terms, locations, schedules, tracking and results. We then propose a rebuilt structure, tracking plan and budget, and set up call tracking and offline conversion imports before launch.

Campaigns are reviewed weekly in the first months, with search terms, bids, schedules and budgets adjusted. Monthly reports show spend, calls, forms, booked jobs, revenue where available and cost per booked job.

Accounts are in your name with your billing. For our general methods, see our Google Ads management page.

Pricing & engagement

Google Ads management is a monthly fee, with a setup fee covering the audit, tracking and account rebuild. Advertising spend is paid by you directly to Google, and call tracking or job software costs to those providers. The fee depends on the number of services, locations and campaigns. We quote in rupees for Indian clients and US dollars for American clients, recommend at least three months to judge results, and do not publish prices because scope varies.
