New York City, NY, United States, served remotely from Pune, India
Quavento Technologies works with businesses in New York City from our office in Pune, India. We build websites, online stores, mobile apps and custom software, and we run SEO for companies in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. We are not a New York agency and we have no office in the city. We are a remote team that keeps Eastern Time call hours, quotes in dollars and charges offshore rates in the most expensive agency market in the country.
New York is a hard place to stand out. More than eight million people live in the five boroughs, and almost every category, from dentists to dumpling shops to fintech startups, has dozens of competitors within a few subway stops. Customers compare you with the best in the city, not the best on your block. A dated website or a store that is slow on a phone is noticed immediately.
This page explains how we work with New York businesses from a distance, which services we currently offer here, what is particular about marketing in the city and how to judge whether a remote team suits you better than a local one.

Stores for city brands and retailers, with New York sales tax, local delivery and store pickup configured correctly.
Custom themes, Shopify POS for shops and pop-ups, and wholesale setups for brands that also sell to retailers.

iPhone and Android apps for booking, delivery, loyalty and field teams, designed for people on the move.
Technical fixes, content and neighborhood-level local search for businesses that compete borough by borough.
The main reason is cost. Agency rates in Manhattan and Brooklyn reflect New York rents and salaries. A small business that gets one junior designer for its budget locally can often get a designer, a developer and a project manager from a team like ours. For work that is judged by the finished product, such as a website, a store or an app, where the team sits matters much less than whether the work is good.
The second reason is speed. Pune is nine and a half hours ahead of New York for most of the year and ten and a half in winter. When you send feedback before leaving the office, the changes are usually waiting when you arrive the next morning.
A remote team is the wrong choice for some things. If you want someone to visit your showroom, attend weekly meetings in person or direct a photo shoot in the city, hire locally. We often work alongside a local photographer or PR consultant that the client already trusts.
We hold calls with New York clients between 9 am and 1 pm Eastern, which is our evening. Most clients choose a standing weekly slot. A typical rhythm is a 30-minute call on the same morning each week, a shared channel for questions and a short written summary every Friday of what was finished and what comes next.
You deal with one project manager from start to finish. That person attends every call, knows the history of the account and is responsible for deadlines. Designs are shared in Figma and built work on a private staging link, so you can review on the subway or at your desk without scheduling anything.
Messages sent in your afternoon are answered by the time you start the next day. For launches and urgent issues we arrange cover during your business hours in advance.
Density changes everything. In most American cities a customer will drive fifteen minutes to a business. In New York, people choose what is near their apartment, their office or their train line. A dry cleaner on the Upper West Side is not competing with one in Park Slope. Search results, ads and content have to be planned neighborhood by neighborhood.
The audience is also unusually varied. New York is among the most linguistically diverse cities in the world. Spanish is the most common language after English, followed by Chinese, and in parts of Queens and Brooklyn a business may serve customers in four or five languages. A site that speaks to them in their own language has an advantage that few competitors bother to claim.
Finally, New Yorkers are quick judges. They are on their phones between stops, they have many options and they read reviews. Clear information, fast pages and honest proof matter more than clever branding.
The city's economy is broad, and the needs differ by sector. Financial and professional firms want credibility, security and content that demonstrates expertise. Restaurants, bars and hospitality businesses need menus that load instantly, booking links and a strong presence on Google Maps. Fashion, beauty and consumer brands need stores that look as good as their products and that handle drops, wholesale and returns.
Real estate brokerages need listings, neighborhood pages and lead capture. Medical and dental practices need online booking, insurance information and accessible pages. Startups, of which the city has thousands, need a product built quickly and a marketing site that explains it.
We adapt the same core skills to each. The service pages below go into the specifics, and each describes rules that apply in New York for that kind of work.
A few local points come up again and again. Sales tax in New York City is 8.875 percent, made up of state, city and transit district portions, and clothing and footwear priced under $110 per item are exempt. An online store has to apply both rules correctly.
New York's SHIELD Act requires any business that holds private information about New York residents to keep reasonable safeguards and to notify people of a breach. It applies whether or not the business is located in the state.
Accessibility deserves particular attention here. New York's federal courts have handled more website accessibility lawsuits than those of any other state in recent years, and claims often cite the New York State and New York City human rights laws alongside the Americans with Disabilities Act. Some professions have their own rules too: New York lawyers must label advertising as attorney advertising, and real estate brokers must post a fair housing notice on their websites. We build with these in mind. None of this is legal advice, and your attorney should confirm what applies to you.
By research and by asking you. Before a project starts we study who ranks for your services in your neighborhoods, what your competitors' sites say and charge, how they are reviewed and where their weaknesses are. Search data for New York is plentiful, and we check results as they appear from specific parts of the city.
What research cannot supply is the feel of your business: why regulars come back, which block your customers live on, what a slow Tuesday looks like. That knowledge is yours. We collect it in a structured interview at the start and return to you whenever a decision depends on it.
We will never claim to know every neighborhood, and we do not write as though we were sitting in a Midtown office. What we write about the city is checked, and what we write about your business comes from you.
Most New York clients start with something contained. A redesign of an aging website. A Shopify theme rebuild before the holiday season. A technical SEO audit. A prototype of an app idea to show investors. A small first project lets both sides see how the other works before committing to more.
Take a physical therapy practice with two locations in Brooklyn as an illustration. A sensible first project would be a new website with a page for each location, online booking and accessible forms. Local SEO for each neighborhood would follow, and later perhaps a patient app. Each stage is quoted separately.
Every project begins with a written proposal that lists what will be delivered, when and for how much. Nothing is billed that was not agreed.
Your business does. Domains, hosting, Shopify stores, analytics, Google Business Profiles and source code are all set up in your name or transferred to you, and we work as invited users. If you decide to move to a New York agency or an in-house hire later, you remove our access and carry on without interruption.
This matters more than it sounds. It is common for a business to discover, when changing agencies, that its website or ad account is registered to the previous vendor. We put ownership in writing in the first agreement.
Look at what is live. Our portfolio contains case studies of real projects, including websites you can open on your own phone and the chatbot on this site. Each case study says where the client is based, and today those clients are in India. We do not have New York case studies yet, and we would rather say so than borrow a logo.
Then talk to the people who would do the work. On the first call you will meet the project manager and, where useful, the lead designer or developer. Ask them how they would approach your project and judge the answers.

Build projects are quoted as a fixed price in US dollars and paid in milestones. Ongoing work such as SEO runs on a monthly retainer with defined deliverables. We do not publish prices, because scope varies too much, but our rates reflect costs in Pune, not Manhattan, and the proposal shows exactly what you are paying for. Invoices are issued in dollars and can be paid by bank transfer or card. There is no charge for the first call or for the proposal.
Our team works from Pune, India. We do not have a US office, so every project is run remotely with a named project manager, a weekly call and written updates. These are the hours we keep for calls with US clients.

No. We are based in Pune, India, and work with New York City businesses remotely. We do not have an office, a virtual address or staff in New York, and we say so on every page.
We keep 9 am to 1 pm Eastern Time free for calls with clients on the East Coast, Monday to Friday. Messages sent later in your day are answered before you start the next morning.
Web design and development, ecommerce development, Shopify development, custom software, mobile app development and SEO. Each has its own page for New York City with more detail.
No. All meetings are by video. If in-person meetings are essential to you, a local agency will be a better fit, and we would rather you know that at the start.
Both. Many of our projects are for small and mid-sized businesses, and a single landing page or an audit is a perfectly good first project.
Invoices are issued in US dollars and paid by international bank transfer or card. Build projects are billed in milestones and retainers monthly, as set out in a written agreement.
Not yet. Our published case studies are for clients in India, and each one says so. We can show you live work and introduce the team members who would handle your project.
