Booking funnel tracking
Website to booking engine to confirmation, with booking value and source preserved.
Tracking that follows guests from your website through the booking engine to a confirmed stay, and practical improvements that turn more website visitors into direct bookings and enquiries.
Quavento Technologies provides analytics and conversion rate optimisation for hotels, resorts, homestays, tour operators and travel agencies. We set up Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager and Search Console so that you can see which channels and pages produce direct bookings and enquiries, connect your booking engine and call and WhatsApp data, and improve the pages and steps where guests give up. We work from Pune with hospitality businesses across India and remotely with businesses in the United States.
Many hotels cannot answer simple questions about their website: how many direct bookings it produced last month, from which sources, at what value, and how many visitors started a booking and abandoned it. Often the booking engine sits on a different domain, tracking breaks at the handover, and every booking appears to come from the booking engine itself.
Without reliable data, it is impossible to know whether marketing pays or why guests still book through agencies. This page explains how we measure and improve direct booking performance.

Bookings and their value first, then the steps leading to them. A direct booking is the most important event on a hotel website, recorded with its value, room type and dates where possible. For tour operators and venues, a qualified enquiry often matters more, because many sales are completed by phone or email after the first contact.
Supporting events show intent: viewing room pages, checking availability, starting a booking, clicking to call, clicking WhatsApp, requesting directions and downloading a brochure or menu. Each is set up as an event in Google Analytics 4, with bookings and enquiries marked as key events.
Measured together, these show where guests drop off. If many visitors check availability but few complete a booking, the problem is likely in the booking engine, the rates or the policies. If few check availability at all, the website itself is not persuading them.
With cross-domain tracking and the booking engine's support. Most hotel websites send guests to a booking engine hosted by the engine provider, on a different domain. Unless tracking is configured to follow the visitor across, Analytics loses the original source and attributes the booking to the booking engine or to a direct visit.
Many booking engines support Google Tag Manager or Analytics on their pages and can send the booking value on confirmation. Setup varies by provider, and some charge for it or limit what can be tracked. We check your engine's capabilities, configure cross-domain measurement and test real bookings end to end.
Where a booking engine cannot be tracked properly, we use the best available alternative, such as matching booking engine reports to Analytics data by date and source. We are honest about the limits, because decisions based on wrong numbers are worse than decisions based on known gaps.
By looking at the whole picture, not only the website. Your PMS or channel manager knows how many bookings came from each online travel agency, at what value and at what commission. Analytics and the booking engine know how many came direct and from which marketing channels.
Bringing these together shows the share of direct bookings over time and what each costs. A direct booking that came through a Google Ads campaign has an advertising cost; an agency booking has a commission. Comparing the two shows whether marketing to increase direct bookings pays, and which channels do it most efficiently.
We build this view as a dashboard, updated automatically where your systems allow and from monthly exports where they do not. Our Google Ads for hotels and travel businesses page explains how campaigns are judged against commission.
In our reviews of hospitality websites, the same issues recur. Room pages lack basic information, such as size, bed type, occupancy, view or accessibility, so guests return to the agency listing where it is clearer. Photographs are few, old or unrepresentative. Prices are hidden until several clicks in, or are higher than on the agencies with no explanation.
The booking engine itself often adds friction: slow pages on mobile, too many steps, forced account creation, unclear cancellation policies or extra charges appearing at the end. Guests who feel uncertain go back to a platform they trust.
Trust signals are often missing too: genuine recent reviews, clear contact details, location and directions, and policies stated plainly. Each of these can be fixed. The website we built for Hotel Adhiras shows every room type with its own booking link, plus an enquiry form and directions on the same site, because guests should never have to hunt for the next step.
By answering guests' questions in the order they ask them, and removing steps that add nothing. A strong room page shows the room clearly with several real photographs, then key facts in a scannable list, the price or a clear path to it, what is included, the cancellation policy and a prominent book button. A comparison of room types helps guests choose.
Benefits of booking direct, such as flexible cancellation, breakfast included, early check-in on request or a returning-guest rate, should be stated clearly if they exist. Claims such as best rate guaranteed must be true and honoured. In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission's rule on unfair or deceptive fees requires the total price, including mandatory fees such as resort fees, to be shown when prices are displayed.
Within the booking engine, we work with its settings and your provider to shorten the process, make it fast on mobile and show all charges early. Where the engine is the main obstacle, we may recommend a different one.
Larger properties and groups with enough traffic can. A/B testing compares two versions of a page and needs a reasonable number of bookings or enquiries to give reliable answers. Changes to room page layouts, offer messaging or the booking button can then be tested properly.
Most independent hotels and small tour operators do not have enough traffic for reliable tests. For them, we use other evidence: session recordings that show how guests move through pages and where they hesitate, heatmaps of clicks and scrolling, feedback from front desk staff about what guests ask, and reviews that mention booking problems.
Changes are then made on clear evidence and good practice, and results watched over longer periods, taking seasons into account. Comparing one month with the previous month can be misleading in hospitality; comparing with the same period last year is often better.
Because much travel browsing happens on phones, often on mobile data while travelling. Slow pages lose visitors before they see a single room. Hotel websites are often heavy, with large images, video headers, sliders and third-party widgets, which makes them especially slow on mobile.
We measure speed with Google's Core Web Vitals and fix the usual causes: images resized and served in modern formats, video loaded only when needed, unnecessary scripts removed and the most important content loaded first. Our Core Web Vitals guide explains the measures in plain language.
Speed improvements often help both search visibility and bookings. They are among the most reliable improvements for hospitality sites, regardless of traffic level.
A single page that shows the health of direct business: direct bookings and revenue by month, direct share compared with agencies, top sources and campaigns, enquiries by type, calls and WhatsApp clicks, and the main pages guests land on. Comparisons with the same period last year account for seasonality.
We build these dashboards, typically in Looker Studio, connected to Analytics, Search Console, advertising accounts and booking data where available. A short monthly summary in plain language explains what changed and what we will do next.
Consent and privacy are handled properly: analytics and advertising tags respect guests' choices through a consent banner, and data protection requirements in India and the United States are reflected in configuration and your privacy notice, as your legal adviser confirms.
It starts with an audit of tracking, the website, the booking engine and your booking data, listing what is missing or wrong. We then write a measurement plan, implement it and test real bookings and enquiries end to end.
With reliable data, we gather evidence through recordings, heatmaps and staff feedback, and propose prioritised improvements to room pages, the booking path, speed and trust signals. Changes are made in batches and reviewed monthly against bookings and enquiries.
All accounts remain in your name. For our general approach, see our analytics and CRO service page, and for the website itself, our website development for hotels and travel businesses page.
We work with hotels & travel businesses in India from our office in Pune, and with businesses in the United States remotely, with calls in US business hours. The work is the same. The terms, platforms and rules differ, and we plan for both.

Analytics setup is quoted as a fixed-price project after the audit. Ongoing conversion optimisation and reporting is a monthly plan. Booking engine tracking fees and tool subscriptions, where they apply, are paid by you directly. The cost depends on the number of properties, your booking engine's tracking support and the amount of page improvement work included. We quote in rupees for Indian clients and US dollars for American clients, and do not publish prices because scope varies.
Usually because cross-domain tracking is not set up between your website and the booking engine, so the original source is lost. We configure and test it with your engine provider.
Where the booking engine supports it, yes: booking value, room type and dates are recorded on confirmation and reported by source.
Complete room information, real photographs, clear prices and policies, direct booking benefits, a fast mobile site and a short booking process all help. Data shows which matter most for you.
Usually not, because traffic is too low for reliable results. Recordings, heatmaps and staff feedback guide improvements instead. Larger groups can test properly.
