Apps for older users
Large text, simple flows, clear wording and access for a family member.
iOS and Android apps for Tampa Bay caregivers, patients, inspectors, charter operators and rental managers, designed to be clear and usable at every age.

Quavento Technologies designs and develops mobile apps for businesses in Tampa, Florida. We take an app from idea to the App Store and Google Play: research, design, development for iOS and Android, the server behind it, testing, submission and updates. We work remotely from Pune, India, hold calls between 9 am and 1 pm Eastern Time and quote in US dollars.
Many apps are designed by people in their twenties for people in their twenties. In Tampa Bay that is a mistake. A good share of the people who will use a patient app, a pharmacy app, a community app or a banking app here are over sixty-five, and the people who use staff apps are caregivers, inspectors and boat captains with their hands full.
This page explains how we design for both groups, the kinds of app that make sense for businesses in the region, and the rules that apply.
Last updated:
Large text, simple flows, clear wording and access for a family member.
Schedules, visit check-in, care notes and offline use for staff in clients' homes.
Appointments, reminders, messages and instructions with federal privacy safeguards.
Guided photo forms, measurements and reports for roofers, inspectors and adjusters.
Bookings, waivers, cleaning checklists and guest information for tourism operators.
Status, checklists and notifications prepared for hurricane season.
By respecting how they use a phone. Many older users set their text size large, hold the phone farther away, tap more deliberately and read every word. An app that ignores the system text setting, hides actions behind unlabelled icons or relies on swipes and long presses shuts them out.
We make every screen work with the largest text setting without cutting words off. Buttons are big and labelled in plain language. Each screen does one thing. There is always an obvious way back and a way to reach a person. Sign-in uses the phone's fingerprint or face unlock where possible, since passwords are the commonest point of failure. Nothing times out without warning.
Family involvement is designed in. An adult child can be given access, with the user's consent, to see appointments or help manage settings. We test with people in the age group the app is for, which reveals problems no checklist does. Apps built this way are easier for everyone, including a nurse using one in a hurry.
Their day, in order, and a quick way to record each visit. A caregiver may see four clients across two counties, in homes where the mobile signal is poor. The app shows the schedule, directions, the client's care plan and notes from the last visit.
On arrival and departure the caregiver checks in and out, which records the time and location for that moment only. Tasks are ticked off, observations noted, and anything worrying is flagged to a supervisor at once. For Medicaid-funded services, federal law requires electronic verification of visits, and the app captures the elements your state program and payer specify, or passes them to the system you already use for that purpose.
Everything works without a connection and syncs later. Client information is health information, so the app requires authentication, encrypts what it stores and keeps details out of lock-screen notifications. Many caregivers speak Spanish or Haitian Creole as a first language, and offering the app in their language reduces errors.
A few things, simply. See and change appointments. Receive reminders. Fill in forms before a visit. Read instructions after it. Send a message to the practice. Request a prescription refill. For most patients that covers nearly every reason they would otherwise phone.
Health information brings federal privacy rules: a business associate agreement, compliant hosting, encryption, authentication and care about what appears in a notification. Reminders say that there is an appointment, not what it is for.
The population here adds requirements. Seasonal residents need the app to work across the months they are away and to show times in the right time zone. Patients who no longer drive may need transport arranged, which the app can request. Not every patient will use an app, so the same reminders should be available by text or automated call. Often the portal of the practice's existing system is adequate, and we recommend it where it is.
To document a property quickly and completely. Florida's insurance market depends on inspections: the condition and age of a roof, how it is attached, the protection on windows and doors. Insurers ask for standard inspection forms with specific photographs, and after a storm, damage has to be recorded house by house.
The app guides the inspector through each required item, prompts for the photographs the form calls for and will not let a report be finished with something missing. Photographs are labelled, timestamped and marked up on screen. Measurements can be taken from satellite imagery or entered by hand. The report is produced on the spot in the required layout.
Roofs and attics in a Florida summer are punishing, so the app is quick, readable in sun and usable with one hand. It works offline in neighborhoods where towers are down after a storm. Completed reports flow into the office system described on our custom software for Tampa page. Inspectors' licensing and the content of official forms are your responsibility.
Bookings and paperwork handled before guests step aboard. Tampa Bay and the Gulf support a large fleet of fishing guides, charter boats, dolphin tours and rentals. Most are small operations where the captain is also the office.
A simple system lets customers book and pay a deposit, sign a waiver on their phone, and receive the meeting point, what to bring and the weather policy. The captain sees the day's trips, the party size and any notes, and can message everyone if conditions force a change. It works where the signal fades offshore.
For most single-boat operators an existing booking platform does this well, and we say so. Custom work suits larger fleets and marinas that need to schedule vessels, licensed captains and crew, track maintenance hours and report across the business. Passenger limits and licensing follow Coast Guard rules, and the app enforces the limits you set per vessel.
To run turnovers without phone calls. Between one guest leaving at ten and the next arriving at four, a cleaner, an inspector and sometimes a repair person have to get through the property. With dozens of units along the beaches, that is a daily logistics exercise.
A staff app gives each cleaner the day's properties in order, with access instructions and a checklist. They photograph the finished rooms, report damage or missing items and mark the unit ready, which updates the office and can trigger the guest's check-in message. Maintenance requests are assigned and tracked the same way.
Guests rarely install an app for a week's stay, so their side is better delivered as a web guide opened from a link or a QR code in the unit: door codes, Wi-Fi, parking rules, beach access, bin days and whom to call. In storm season, the staff app tracks which properties have been secured and inspected, and guests receive clear instructions.
It should become a dependable source of facts. For a home care agency, that means knowing which clients have evacuated, which need a check and which caregivers can still travel. For a medical practice, which appointments are cancelled and how to get urgent help. For a residential community, when elevators shut down and shelters open.
We build a storm mode that staff can switch on: a status banner, prepared notifications, checklists for staff and a way for users to mark themselves safe or in need. Key information is saved on the phone in case networks fail, and the servers are hosted outside the region.
Florida requires many healthcare and senior care providers to maintain emergency plans, and software can support them, though the plan itself is yours. Notifications at such times are kept to facts and times. People remember which organizations told them clearly what was happening.
The app stores require an accurate privacy disclosure, an explanation for every permission, permission before tracking across other companies' apps and a way to delete an account in the app. Health and financial apps are reviewed more closely.
Location needs care, particularly for staff. Recording where a caregiver or inspector is at check-in is reasonable and often required. Tracking them all day is not, and it drains the battery. Staff should be told plainly what is recorded and when.
Florida's telemarketing law restricts promotional texts and calls beyond the federal rules, so marketing messages need written consent and must be kept apart from service messages such as appointment reminders. Older adults are a focus of consumer protection enforcement, and an app should never use pressure or confusing subscriptions. Accessibility is tested with VoiceOver and TalkBack. Your counsel should confirm which rules apply to your product.
Discovery produces a specification and a clickable prototype that you can test with real users, including older ones, before any code is written. For most of these apps we recommend a cross-platform framework such as React Native or Flutter, covering iPhone and Android from one codebase. Staff apps on company devices may need only one platform, which lowers the cost.
Development runs in two-week sprints, each ending with a build on your own phone. Calls are between 9 am and 1 pm Eastern. Developer accounts are opened in your company's name, and the code and all rights are yours.
After launch an app needs yearly updates for new operating system versions and crash monitoring, and we offer a monthly plan for both. We suggest releasing staff apps before the winter season and before June, not during them. We are based in Pune and have no Tampa office. See also our app development for US businesses page, web design for Tampa and the Tampa overview.

Rollout and training, monitoring, feedback and a monthly plan for updates.
Discovery and prototyping are a small fixed-price project. Development is then quoted in US dollars as a fixed price per phase or a monthly team rate, depending on how settled the scope is. The cost depends on the number of screens and user roles, offline behavior, integrations with care, practice or office systems, languages and compliance requirements. Apple and Google developer fees, cloud hosting and third-party services are paid by you directly. Support after launch is a separate monthly plan. We do not publish prices, but discovery ends with a detailed estimate before you commit to the build.
Our team works from Pune, India. We do not have a US office, so every project is run remotely with a named project manager, a weekly call and written updates. These are the hours we keep for calls with US clients.

Yes. We support the largest text sizes, use labelled buttons and simple flows, replace passwords with fingerprint or face unlock where possible and test with older users.
Yes. Check-in and check-out capture time and location at that moment. For Medicaid services we capture what your state program and payer require, or pass it to your existing verification system.
Yes. Field and caregiver apps store data on the device and sync when a connection returns, with clear status for the user.
We build with the required safeguards and sign a business associate agreement. Compliance also depends on your policies, so your privacy officer should review the design.
For a single boat, an existing booking platform usually does the job. A custom app suits larger fleets that schedule vessels, captains and crew.
You do. Developer accounts are in your company name, the code is in your repository and our agreement assigns all rights to you once paid for.
No. We work remotely from Pune, India, with calls between 9 am and 1 pm Eastern Time. We do not have a US office.
