Custom Software Development Company in San Diego, CA

What we do for businesses in San Diego.

Quavento Technologies develops custom software for companies in San Diego, California. We build web applications, customer and partner portals, internal tools, dashboards and the integrations that link them to systems you already use. We work remotely from Pune, India, hold calls in Pacific Time windows and price in US dollars.

San Diego companies tend to be specialized. A contract laboratory, a company with a design office in Sorrento Valley and a factory in Tijuana, a whale-watching operator with six boats, a physical therapy group with nine clinics: each runs on a process that general-purpose software only partly fits.

That gap is where custom software earns its keep. This page describes the projects that suit the region's industries and is candid about two kinds of work, validated systems for regulated science and controlled defense data, where a team like ours has clear limits.

Guide

What you should know in San Diego.

When does custom software make sense?

When a packaged product has been tried and bent as far as it will go. Standard needs such as accounting, payroll and email should use standard products. Custom development is for the part of the business that is unlike anyone else's.

The signs are consistent. Information is typed into two or three systems. One spreadsheet has become critical and fragile. Customers phone for updates you already have. Preparing a monthly report takes days. New staff take months to learn the workarounds.

We begin with the smallest piece that removes real pain, connected to what you already use, not with a plan to replace everything. If it pays for itself, the next piece follows. Our guide to planning an MVP explains how to choose where to start.

What can you build for life science companies?

A good deal, with one boundary that should be stated first. Systems that hold regulated records, such as data supporting a submission, manufacturing batch records or clinical trial data, must be developed and validated under formal quality procedures, including the Food and Drug Administration's rules on electronic records and signatures. That work needs a vendor set up for validation, and we do not take it on.

Around those systems there is a large amount of operational work with no such requirement. Research laboratories and service providers need to track incoming samples and projects, schedule instruments, quote and invoice, and give clients a portal to submit requests and collect results. Business development teams need a view of partners and deals. Facilities teams need equipment maintenance logs.

We build these as web applications with careful access control and audit history, integrated with accounting and CRM. If you are unsure whether a system falls inside regulated scope, your quality group should decide before any developer is engaged.

  • Sample, request and project tracking.
  • Client portals for submissions and results.
  • Instrument and room scheduling.
  • Quoting, invoicing and CRM integration.
  • Not offered: validated systems for regulated records.

How does software help companies that work across the border?

By making two sites behave as one. Many San Diego companies manage engineering, sales and finance on the United States side and manufacturing or assembly in Tijuana or elsewhere in Baja California. The work depends on constant handoffs: drawings, purchase orders, materials, schedules, quality reports and finished goods moving back and forth.

Software for this has to be bilingual in a real sense, with every screen, notification and report available in English and Spanish and each user choosing their own. It has to handle dollars and pesos, two calendars of public holidays and different units and document formats. And it has to give both teams the same picture of what is due and what is late.

Typical projects are production and shipment trackers, supplier and material portals, quality issue logs with photographs, and dashboards for managers on both sides. Customs brokerage and trade compliance stay with your broker's systems, and we connect to them where an interface exists.

What do hospitality and tour businesses need?

Control of capacity. Tourism is one of the county's largest industries, and behind the hotels are hundreds of operators running boat trips, surf lessons, kayak tours, bike rentals, brewery tours and event venues. Each sells a limited number of places at fixed times, through its own website and through resellers.

The standard booking platforms handle the basics well, and we recommend them. Custom work comes in where the operation is more complicated: matching bookings to boats, guides and equipment, handling weather cancellations and rebooking in bulk, managing waivers, coordinating with hotel concierges and cruise schedules, or reporting across several brands.

California law requires advertised prices to include mandatory fees, so any booking flow we build shows the full price from the first step. We integrate with the booking and channel systems you already use, so availability stays correct everywhere.

Can you build software for healthcare providers?

Yes. The county has major health systems, a large veteran and military patient population, and many independent practices and specialty groups. Much of their administrative effort goes into work around the health record: referrals, authorizations, scheduling across sites, outreach and reporting.

Software handling protected health information falls under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. We sign a business associate agreement, host with a provider that does likewise, encrypt data, restrict access by role, record who viewed what and collect only what each feature needs. California adds its own medical privacy law, which your counsel should factor in.

Many patients here prefer Spanish, so patient-facing tools are built bilingual from the start. Integration with the record system uses its supported interfaces. Your privacy officer should review the design before development begins.

Do you work with defense contractors and veteran-owned firms?

On commercial and administrative systems, yes. San Diego has one of the largest concentrations of military activity in the country, and a great many companies, a good number of them veteran-owned, supply the Navy, the Marine Corps and the prime contractors.

There is a hard limit. Technical data controlled under export regulations cannot be shared with foreign nationals without authorization, controlled unclassified information must be handled in systems meeting specific federal cybersecurity requirements, and many contracts require work to be performed in the United States by United States persons. We are a team in India, and we do not take on anything in those categories.

What we can build are systems that never touch such data: a public website, a recruiting portal, a training tracker for general courses, a proposal calendar without controlled content, a customer relationship tool for commercial accounts. Ask your facility security officer or compliance lead before sharing anything with an offshore vendor.

Can you build a first product for a startup?

Yes, and San Diego has plenty of them, growing out of its universities, research institutes and established technology companies. A founder usually needs a working product in front of customers within a few months, on a budget, without creating something that must be thrown away later.

We start by cutting the idea down to the one thing the first customers will pay for. A two-week discovery produces a specification, a clickable prototype and an estimate. The build then runs in short cycles, with something usable at the end of each, so you can show progress to users and investors.

We use mainstream technology that the engineers you later hire will know, keep the code in your repository from the first day and document as we go. Investors will ask who owns the intellectual property, and the answer is you, in writing. If the product is a phone app, see our mobile app development in San Diego page.

How do you handle privacy, security and ownership?

By designing for California from the start. The California Consumer Privacy Act gives residents rights to know, delete and correct personal information and to opt out of its sale or sharing, and it applies to businesses above certain thresholds. Software that stores personal data should be able to find, export and delete one person's records on request. Building that in costs little. Adding it later is expensive.

Security follows established practice: role-based access, single sign-on with multi-factor authentication, encryption in transit and at rest, audit logs, backups and prompt patching. Applications are hosted in a United States region with a major cloud provider, in accounts you own.

You own the result. Code is in your repository, cloud accounts are in your name and our agreement assigns intellectual property to you on payment. We use TypeScript with React and Next.js, Node.js or Python and PostgreSQL, chosen so that other developers can maintain the system.

How does a software project run with a remote team?

It starts with a paid discovery of two to three weeks. We interview the people who do the work, look at current systems and produce a specification, wireframes and an estimate that is yours to keep.

Development runs in two-week sprints, each ending in a demonstration on a staging system, with progress recorded in a tracker you can see. Calls are held between 8 am and 9 am or 5 pm and 7 pm Pacific. Because our working day is your night, questions raised in the afternoon usually have answers by morning.

We are based in Pune, India, and have no San Diego office, so workshops take place by video. How we contract with American clients is set out on our software development for US companies page. The public website that fronts your software is covered under web design for San Diego, and our other services are on the San Diego overview.

Pricing & engagement

How do pricing and engagement work?

Discovery is a small fixed-price project. Development is then quoted in US dollars as a fixed price per phase where the scope is clear, or as a monthly team rate where requirements will evolve. The cost depends on the number of user roles and screens, languages, integrations, compliance requirements and data migration. Cloud hosting and third-party services are paid by you directly. Support after launch is a separate monthly plan. We do not publish prices because projects differ so widely, but discovery gives you a detailed estimate before you commit to building.

Working with a remote team

When can we meet in your time zone?

Our team works from Pune, India. We do not have a US office, so every project is run remotely with a named project manager, a weekly call and written updates. These are the hours we keep for calls with US clients.
